I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all of you who visited the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology, CHA University.

The aim of department of Food Science and Biotechnology at CHA University is to educate the excellent experts in the field of food biotechnology by researching and teaching biotechnology based on the an applied scientific field related to food production, storage, processing, distribution, safety, consumption and human health and life phenomenon, as well as on the basis of the application technology, biotechnology represented by “omics”.

The 6T science and technology field, which our country is focusing on in order to become a world-class technology powerhouse, are information technology (IT), biotechnology (BT), nanotechnology (NT), culture (CT), and environment (ET). The food biotechnology belongs to BT is a very important and promising field that can solve the desire of human being that wants to live healthy and longer.

Although science and technology has developed in last 20th century to subdivided one field, convergence science and integration technologies that are integrated with each other in the 21st century are emerging as new trends. The total size of domestic food industry and food service industry is about 100 trillion won. Food biotechnology is expected tobedeveloped dramatically by incorporating biotechnological techniques into the food science.

CHA University is a small, but specialized, strong university that has grown most prominently in Korea’s life sciences over the past decade. We have already established more than 10 specialized hospitals in domestic and overseas including US to secure advanced medical technology. Through the establishment of a venture business, we are making efforts to commercialize advanced biotechnology represented by stem cell technology and new drug discovery. It has already been acknowledged for our technological capability both domestically and internationally.

The Department of Pharmacy, Department of Nursing, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Biomedical Science, School of Medicine, Graduate School of Health and Welfare, Graduate School of Integrated Medicine, etc., have already been established in CHA University. I am confident that CHA Universityhave the best environment for studying and developing my major field and preparing for the future.

We will do our best to develop the spirit of challenge and fulfill our dreams in the Department of Food Science and Biotechnology at CHA University.
